Important info about upcoming dates and events

Greetings – fellow WHS

Here is some important information about some dates, activities and events that are in the planning stages over the next year or so – please review this blog message and mark your calendars accordingly.

First off – our summer break – we normally take a 4 to 6 week break over the summer and this year will be no different.  Our last rehearsal before the break will be Monday, June 24.  We will not rehearse on July 1, July 8, July 15, July 22, July 29 or August 5.  Our rehearsals will resume on Monday, August 12.

We will plan for an all-day coaching session on Saturday, September 14, 2019 – in preparation for our Fall Convention and Contest in Spokane in October.  This coaching day will begin at 8:30 am as we gather and get ready for a morning session from 9 till noon; then after lunch (will be provided) we will have another session from 1 to 4 pm.  We are excited to be bringing in two coaches for this day – Steve Armstrong from Toronto, who was here last fall, will coach us on ‘music’ aspects of our contest songs; and Marty Lovick will coach us on the ‘performance’ aspects.  Both of these men are very good at what they do and are highly respected in our barbershop world.  They should work well together and should be able to enhance the level of our contest songs as well as our general barbershop understanding.

The Evergreen District Fall Convention and Contest will be the weekend of October 17-20, 2019 and will be held in Spokane.  It is our intent to have 40 plus men in attendance and put on a high energy and impactful performance of our contest songs.  There will be many events going on that weekend, so you will be able to enjoy much more than just the chorus contest.

We will be having our Christmas Show at MacDougall United Church on Saturday, December 7, 2019 with both afternoon and evening performances.  The show will feature our Christmas Chorus which will be augmented with guests from our fall membership drive.  Jeroen is already planning for this membership campaign, so stay tuned for more details from him.  We plan for the Christmas Chorus to sing 6 songs, WHS to sing an additional 4 to 6 songs, and then have our chapter quartets to add a number of other songs.  We are exploring the possibilities of a guest high school choir or some other choral group as well.

The last date to mention is our annual spring show – set for Saturday, April 25, 2020.  This will be our 30th Anniversary Show (since our charter in 1990).  We will be doing afternoon and evening shows that day.  As a headline quartet we are planning to bring in Momma’s Boys from the Seattle area.  This quartet was the 2018 Evergreen District Quartet Champs and is made up of the Kelly brothers.  WHS will feature a number of the ‘favorite’ songs from our 30 plus year history.  In addition we will be making a strong effort to contact as many past members of WHS as possible to celebrate this weekend with us.

So there you have it – a number of great chapter / chorus events coming up.  I hope you can all be part of these plans.    Signing off – Bob Robson, Music VP for WHS.
