WHS Coach Sean Devine - Notes From Harmony University 2009

Words – Make sure all words are understood by every audience member

Inline Singing – The sound needs to be FORWARD placed, the sound must be FOCUSSED, a SMALL MOUTH SHAPE will enhance inline singing. Use the fingers to focus the sound and keep it from scattering out to the sides.

Target Sounds  - Identify all target sounds and get to them immediately. Anything less will sound mushy

Phrase Endings – Keep the VOCAL ENERGY in the music to the end of every phrase; keep the VISUAL ENERGY in the music to the end of every phrase

Phrases – Every phrase must be sung TO THE BREATH

Swipes – Be PRECISE so that every target sound is hit at the same time

Theory of Threes – When there are REPETITIONS SOMETHING MUST CHANGE; generally, GROWTH IS UPWARD in ENERGY, VOLUME, INTENSITY, INTEREST. Upward growth does not have to mean VOLUME
